Amarr Jarred Croskey is an Alabama Press Association award winning photojournalist. He is also a street photographer and narrative photographer from Birmingham, AL. Amarr’s artwork has been featured in CNN, BBC, NPR, Birmingham Times Media Group, Alabama Media Group, Birmingham Museum of Art and many more. Amarr began his journey in photography after he returned from a military deployment to Kuwait in 2016. In search of healthy coping mechanism to deal with the chaos of the deployment, a childhood friend suggested that he should try photography. with that advice he purchased a Nikon 5300 without realizing the lens was sold separately. That single decision changed not only his life but his family’s life. Over the next three years, Amarr would spend countless hours perfecting his craft; setting a goal of capturing 100 photographs every single day. This discipline would produce much fruit for Amarr who would see his clientele grow substantially. Amarr hopes his photographs tell a story of hope, truth Curiosity. Amarr uses his voice in photography to find beauty in people and places that may have been neglected. His goal in photography is to speak to those individuals who may feel hopeless and inspire them to continue. Photography to Amarr is a story of redemption; a second chance.
